THREE GOLDEN MOMENTS
from Kit Emmet

  • It was the end of the very last performance in the "old" theatre before it was pulled down. We had had a nostalgic evening, reminiscing over past productions and incidents. As the curtain moved slowly across the front of the stage for the last time, the track broke!

  • At the opening of the “new” theatre the Queen Mother was present. Members of the public had gathered in the car park and garden in the hope of seeing her. They were rewarded when she emerged from the auditorium at the interval. They surged forward and she obligingly went to the window and waved. Then she turned to Alfred and said, “I presume these are your fans, Mr. Emmet?” With great presence of mind Alfred replied, “No, Ma'am, I think they are yours”.

  • I retain a vivid memory of Anne Neville endlessly pulling the cart round and round on a very slowly darkening stage at the close of Mother Courage. Terrific theatre!
