Staged reading: Treats
Staged reading of Treats by Christopher Hampton
While her bullying and unfaithful boyfriend Dave is reporting in Iraq, Ann seizes the opportunity to change the locks and take up with her infinitely more considerate colleague Patrick. But Dave is not to be deterred and with savage charisma sets about displacing his rival and winning Ann back.
First staged at the Royal Court in 1976 and updated by Hampton for a 2007 revival (where Billie Piper met her husband Laurence Fox!), Treats demonstrates that in love our instinct for making the wrong decisions remains as sharp as ever.

Christopher Hampton is a noted British dramatist. His debut play When Did You Last See My Mother? made him the youngest writer to have a play performed in the West End in the modern era. He was resident dramatist at the Royal Court between 1968 and 1970. He is perhaps best known for his adaptation of Les liaisons dangereuses which won him the Olivier Award for Best New Play in 1986 and the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1988. He is also a noted translator, particularly of the plays of Yasmina Reza (Art, God of Carnage), and his version of Florian Zeller's The Father is currently enjoying an acclaimed West End run.
