Are you familiar with Chekhov’s one-act comic plays? If not, then join this course and appreciate his superb comic side. If you are, then join us to delve into his humorous plays and act them out.
This fun, practical and enlightening course will enable you to become familiar with Chekhov’s one-act gems including ‘The Anniversary’, ‘The Proposal’, ‘The Bear’ and ‘The Unwilling Martyr’.
Discover countless touches of humour in combination with a plethora of whimsical and hilarious characters. This course will enable you to develop your acting skills within the genre of comedy and make effective use of the ‘aside’ technique in a comedic performance.
Towards the end of this short course we’ll rehearse and work towards an informal in-class performance of a one-act play - with the opportunity to invite family and friends along to watch.
Course overviewSession 1:
Practical introduction to Chekhov’s comic one-act plays
Within a fun and friendly atmosphere we’ll act out, present and discuss extracts and scenes from ‘The Bear’, ‘The proposal’, ‘The Anniversary’ and ‘The Unwilling Martyr’. Session 2:
Exploring Chekhov’s comic characters
While rehearsing for our informal Chekhov showcase performed in session four, we’ll explore in more detail Chekhov’s witty and fascinating characters, looking at their inner motivations, personality traits and status. Session 3:
Rehearsing towards our show
We’ll continue rehearsals for our performance for the next session. You’ll have the option (but it’s not a requirement) to learn lines and act using mime. Session 4:
Performance to family and friends
We’ll present our informal performance of Chekhov’s plays in front of family and friends.
