The Questors Present

Multitudes

By John Hollingworth

How far would you go for your family, your country or your religion?

Longstanding local Tory councillor Kash has his sights set on becoming MP for Bradford West. With the Conservative Party Conference taking place in a few days, all attention is focussed on him and his city. He plans to give a secular speech on rebuilding trust, but Britain is a country in turmoil.

The Conservatives have just won the election after a very divisive campaign. The new government has now backed military intervention in the Middle East. Back in the UK, mosques have been attacked, and a vicar assaulted.  In the centre of Bradford a controversial peace protest camp has been set up by a group of Muslim women.

Within Kash’s family tensions are also rising. His white British girlfriend is secretly going through a period of change in her religious beliefs. His girlfriend’s mother is conflicted, no longer recognising the city which she has served for over 30 years. Meanwhile his daughter Qadira is being drawn into a more radical form of protest.

Multitudes is an explosive play about identity and belonging in multicultural Britain today.
