By Jane Austen, Adapted by Doon Mackichan & Martin Millar
A fresh and quirky reimagining of a much-loved classic novel
Jane Austen’s subtle wit is infused with new life in Doon MacKichan and Martin Millar’s adaptation of one of her best loved novels, Emma.
Emma Woodhouse is selfish and spoilt, but with a heart of gold. As she tries and fails to set up love matches between her friends, the ensuing chaos makes Emma question herself, and the nature of love.
This playful adaptation puts Austen herself centre stage as she acts out the tale with her four nieces, who breathe new life into the story.
Bring your picnic rug (or a folding chair) and join us in Walpole Park for a delightful and irreverent take on Emma in a suitably picturesque setting.
With thanks to Pitzhanger Manor and the London Borough of Ealing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if the weather is bad?
Please come prepared for the Great British Summer! Being prepared for a sunny afternoon is as important as being prepared for a cooler evening show, and even rain. Our performers will be prepared to perform in all but the very worst of weather and we hope that you will be too. If a performance does not go ahead or is abandoned due to bad weather we will contact you to arrange tickets for another performance or a refund.
Will there be seating?
We are asking all audience members to bring their own seating. Picnic rugs, floor cushions, and folding chairs are all welcome. You can also sit directly on the grass.
Can I sit anywhere?
Seating is un-reserved and on a first come, first served basis. We will mark out different areas for those bringing chairs and those bringing cushions and rugs. If your group has a mixture, you can sit on each side of the marked areas. If you arrive late or a performance is particularly busy we may ask you to sit separately.
Can I bring my own food and drink?
You are welcome to bring your own food and drink. We ask that you take all rubbish away with you after the performance.
Will there be somewhere to buy food and drink?
Refreshments will be available at The Questors Theatre before and after the show. Unfortunately, only soft drinks will be able to be taken off-site for consumption during the show, but do join us in our CAMRA award-winning bar for a pre- or post- show drink!
How long is it? Is there an interval?
The show around 90 mins with no interval.
This amateur production of Emma is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
