When Noises Off premiered in 1982, it became an instant comedy classic. Packed with
mishaps, mayhem and misunderstandings, it has rightly been hailed as “the funniest farce
ever written.”
This play-within-a-play portrays the backstage chaos of a travelling theatre company as they
stage ‘Nothing On’, a raunchy, but badly written, comedy of their own. As the actors and
crew contend with missed cues, big egos and stray sardines (no, really) the line between
play and personal life begins to erode, and both unravel. More than just hearts may be
broken by curtain call, but the show must go on!
