Learn How To Improvise

Questors Academy

Explore the fun and endless possibilities of improvisation

Course dates: 23 September to 14 October 2017
Times: Saturdays 8-10 pm
Duration: 4 weeks
Course fee: £48/£32 (members)
Level: Introductory
Tutor: Duncan Alldridge

Improvisation is a great tool for actors, allowing you to move outside the safety of a rehearsed script - and explore the freedom of your imagination and develop your awareness as a storyteller.

The first session is all about having fun and working on the skills at the heart of improvisation - listening, making offers and committing to your choices. In the following weeks you’ll develop a kind of ‘actor’s toolkit’ – learning how to serve stories and allow them to emerge. You’ll learn the attitudes and ideas that make improvisation work.

Improvisation is ideal for actors who don't want to get stuck down traditional avenues of learning lines and of having to ‘get it right’. It’s not about cleverness or being under pressure to make people laugh – it’s about becoming more confident and relaxed on stage, taking more risks and feeling more creative and liberated.

Throughout this fun and engaging course you’ll be encouraged to release your creative fuel both in life and as a performer.

Who is this course for?

Everyone is welcome. It’s ideal for people trying improvisation for the first time, and more experienced players who want to work on their core skills.

Whether you’re looking to develop your confidence in life or your depth as a performer, your experience with improvisation will help you to take risks.

Who teaches this course?

The course will be led by Duncan Alldridge - an experienced tutor who has taught theatre extensively in schools and colleges, and undertaken a range of innovative projects in professional, fringe and community theatre spaces. Duncan has been involved with The Questors for over 20 years. He’s also studied improvisation with a range of practitioners and works as a teacher, movement practitioner, voice artist and coach.
