Acting Out Monologues

Dates: Four Saturdays in June - 2, 9, 16 and 23
Time: 8pm to 10pm
Venue: Shaw Room
Fee: £32 (Questors members) or £48 (non-members)

Explore how to perform a monologue individually and as part of a group. Develop your acting, vocal and movement skills, as well as use mime and music to perform within a final group monologue by playwright Jean Cocteau.

Through a variety of fun drama games, exercises and activities you’ll explore the skills and techniques needed when working on, and delivering, a monologue. We’ll look at acting and stage presence principles, explore vocal and movement skills, as well as improve your confidence on stage.

In particular, we will look at the effective use of pauses, intonation, pace, volume, as well as breathing techniques. We’ll also explore how to make use of facial expressions, gestures, posture and body language when performing in character.

Through a variety of monologues you’ll work in pairs and small groups and have the opportunity to give and receive supportive and constructive feedback.
Towards the end of the course we will work on a group monologue performance in class using mime and music.

This short course will be led by Kelly Manteli who has successfully run several of our previous Platform short courses.
