History

The Grapevine BarThe Grapevine was founded in 1959 by members of The Questors Theatre to act both as a social centre and as a source of funds to support the theatre's activities. It has always been run as a separate organisation and its contribution to the theatre's coffers has passed the one and three-quarter million pounds mark.

The bar is run by a committee of up to 20 volunteers, one of whom is always on duty during opening hours. We also depend on volunteer helpers to assist on busy nights, so please be patient with the staff - it may be their first time behind a bar.

The Grapevine is still the social centre of the theatre, as well as being a traditional crush bar on show nights. You will invariably find some committee meeting in there, a production team planning a future production, or actors nervously waiting to be called for an audition. If you are interested in becoming involved in any activity at the theatre, the bar is a good place to start. Everyone who is anyone passes through its doors at some point.

However, don't forget that The Grapevine is a members' club and you must be a Member of the theatre, or an audience member to use its facilities. But, as an introduction, there is a tour of the theatre, including a free drink, starting at 8.00pm every Wednesday evening.

And where does the tour group meet?

Yes, in The Grapevine.
