This really fun, practical and original course will enable you to become familiar with this unique theatrical genre and will get you acting, laughing and creating innovative theatre! We will use various fun and easily accessible drama activities, improvisation and text in order to explore a variety of acting styles. We will study the theatrical features, language, characters and plot structure of some of the plays that belong to the absurd group including the work of Eugene Ionesco and Samuel Beckett. We will explore their lack of focus on logical acts, realistic occurrences and traditional character development. Through this you will learn how to communicate effectively the ideas of the Theatre of the Absurd to an audience.
Physical Theatre-Making and Story-Telling
Tutor: Sara Page
Dates: 4 weeks running on Feb 18, 25, Mar 4 and 11 (Fee: £28 members/£40 non-members)
This will focus on creating original theatre with a strong focus on communicating meaning and telling stories to an audience, drawing on movement and physical theatre. Each week will concentrate on a different approach to story-telling using the body, including both non-verbal work and creating movement-based pieces which incorporate text, or use music, or use physical objects in relation to the body. This is not a dance course but an opportunity for participants to discover their body and external stimuli in order to create accessible theatre on their feet, as opposed to writing a script around a table. It will require some physical work but no previous dance/movement experience. It will be suitable for all ages.
Both Kelly and Sara have successfully run previous Platforms so great to have them back.
