Platform course

A number of short courses are on offer throughout the year at The Questors, which come under the umbrella of Platform. These cover a wide variety of drama and theatre related subjects, from Brecht to Sondheim to Musicals and Physical Theatre.  They are run by specialist facilitators and take place on Saturday evenings from 20:00 to 22:00.

Theatre of the Absurd - An Introduction

Tutor:  Kelly Manteli

Dates: 4 weeks running on Saturday Jan 21, 28, Feb 4 and 11 (Fee: £28 members/£40 non-members)

?Do you know what Theatre of the Absurd is? If no, join this course to discover it. If yes, then come along to learn even more! This really fun, practical and original course will enable you to become familiar with this unique theatrical genre and will get you acting, laughing and creating innovative theatre! We will use various fun and easily accessible drama activities, improvisation and text in order to explore a variety of acting styles. We will study the theatrical features, language, characters and plot structure of some of the plays that belong to the absurd group including the work of Eugene Ionesco and Samuel Beckett. We will explore their lack of focus on logical acts, realistic occurrences and traditional character development. Through this you will learn how to communicate effectively the ideas of the Theatre of the Absurd to an audience.

Physical Theatre-Making and Story-Telling

Tutor: Sara Page

Dates: 4 weeks running on  Feb 18, 25, Mar 4 and 11  (Fee: £28 members/£40 non-members)

This will focus on creating original theatre with a strong focus on communicating meaning and telling stories to an audience, drawing on movement and physical theatre.  Each week will concentrate on a different approach to story-telling using the body, including both non-verbal work and creating movement-based pieces which incorporate text, or use music, or use physical objects in relation to the body.  This is not a dance course but an opportunity for participants to discover their body and external stimuli in order to create accessible theatre on their feet, as opposed to writing a script around a table.  It will require some physical work but no previous dance/movement experience.  It will be suitable for all ages.

Both Kelly and Sara have successfully run previous Platforms so great to have them back.

To book a place on either or both please ring Jane in the office or email  Jane@questors.org.uk

Spaces are always limited due to the popularity of these sessions so make sure you sign up promptly if a course is announced that whets your appetite!

Please note that anyone whose first language is not English will need to be sufficiently fluent in English to speak and understand during classes. Selection for Platform classes is at the discretion of the facilitator, but they are usually open to all and selection is based on a first come, first served basis.

All courses are available to those aged 18 and over and will only run subject to minimum numbers
