Three very different takes on Jazz performed by some of the best local musicians

The Questors Community Festival launches with an evening of entertainment, encompassing three very different takes on Jazz performed by some of the best up and coming musicians from Ealing and beyond.

59 de Ville delivers a modern take on Bebop and Blues, performing numbers such as The Sidewinder, Nightlife, Black Cat Bone, and Cantaloupe Island as well as their own original compositions. Formed out of a jam session at Ain’t Nothing But the Blues, the band features jazz musicians Jeremy Robinson on trumpet and Jamie Royan on double bass & bass guitar, together with blues frontman Russ Varakuta on guitar & vocals and Jerry Claydon on drums.

WestSideJazz showcases Mellow Jazz, playing their own take on Swing, Blues, Ballads, and Latin standards drawn from the Great American Songbook. Formed out of Jazz Café sessions at Mehr Clef 2024, the band features Richard Cook on vocals, Marcus James on piano, and Jamie Royan on double bass. For this special show, WestSideJazz will additionally be joined by Jeremy Robinson on trumpet. The performance will include renditions of Fly Me to the Moon, Centrepiece, Lullaby of Birdland, and Old Devil Moon.

Featuring the cutting-edge of 1920s Dixieland Jazz, The Ealing Very Senior Hot Jazz Orchestra will be covering pieces such as Mahogany Hall Stomp, Bourbon Street Parade, Tight Like This and Darktown Strutters’ Ball. This 5-piece trad jazz band was formed in 2023 from the playing parents of the Ealing Junior Music School, and features Jeremy Robinson on trumpet, Gill Hilton on clarinet, Peter Hutchison on tenor sax, Denis Barry on banjo and Jamie Royan on double bass.
