By Olwen WymarkA gripping drama exploring the failing mental health sector
At the age of twenty, Verity Taylor was charged by the police for setting fire to a chair in the mental hospital where she was a patient. After being admitted to Broadmoor Hospital, she was told that she could not be discharged without permission from the Home Secretary.
Written in the late 1970s,
Find Me depicts the real life struggle of
the Taylor family as they try to cope with their mentally disturbed
daughter. Forty years on, attitudes have changed and today we might
recognise her behaviour very differently.
Did Verity belong somewhere on the autism spectrum? Is the state mental health service is still failing us?
